I don’t know how long it’s been available, but Google is now offering free public DNS.

Some of you may be familiar with OpenDNS, well, this is the same type of service, only Google is providing it.

I use OpenDNS myself, but I may give this a try.  If you’d like to, simply go to your TCP/IP properties and set your primary and secondary DNS fields to:

Primary: 8.8.8.8

Secondary: 8.8.4.4

If you run DHCP at home (whether via a router or other server) you can populate the respective fields with these addresses to provide your home network systems with these DNS addresses.
