Subtitle Provider plugin available for Media Browser.

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Monday 11 January 2010 1:58 pm

Just came across this on the Media Browser forum.  My movies come with subtitles, so I don’t have much of a comment on this one.  It is interesting, to say the least though.  All relative information is available in the link provided.

Almost forgot…Diamond v3.

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Wednesday 6 January 2010 11:03 am

I decided to compile the latest build last night, which is something I haven’t done since the official release of Firestorm.  Nothing too groundbreaking there, but I also decided to pull and compile the latest build of the Diamond v3 branch.  I was a bit worried about the changes made to it since I’ve grown quite attached to it and I didn’t want to see what happened to Vanilla to happen there.  It didn’t…it’s a little different, but I definitely like the changes and the look is still basically the same.   It’s noticeable darker, but I like it alot.

It has also been moved to the new plugin architecture like Vanilla was.  I like the new modular approach for everything.  It will slim down the main installer and allow you to add/remove whatever you like.  I think it also helps separate the developer’s contributions a little so that we can all see who is responsible for what.  Considering Media Browser is remaining free (for now, anyway), it can help with making sure donations go to their proper parties.

Keep up the fantastic work guys and for those waiting for the release, be on the lookout!

What happened to Vanilla?

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Monday 28 December 2009 9:51 am

Those of you using the new Firestorm release of Media Browser may be asking, “What happened to the Vanilla theme?”…and rightfully so.  Well, Throgmorton, creator of the theme, has decided to modularize it into a plugin for Media Browser and it has been removed from the default installation.  Don’t worry, you can still very easily get it and I’m going to show you how (in case you’ve missed the instructions elsewhere).

The first thing you’re going to want to do is to close out Media Center on your VMC/7MC system.  I’m expecting you already have the new Firestorm release installed, so we’ll get past that and move on to the Windows programs menu where you’re going to want to find the Media Browser entry and then click on the Configurator link to open that.  Once open, find the plug-ins tab at the top and click on it.

step1

Next, click the Add button below the plug-ins list box.

step2

This will bring up the Add Plugin window, where you will click on the File menu at the top and then choose Sources…

step3

TheAddPluginSourceWindow will now come up and you will type in http://www.throgsoft.com/plugins/plugin_info.xml

step4

Click on OK to download the XML file that will add the plugins available to the list.  You will then select the theme you want from the list and click the Install button to download and install Vanilla.

step5

That’s it!  You can now close the Configurator, fire up Media Center, go to Media Browser and Vanilla will be in the themes that are available from the Configuration screen.

Support issues should now be directed to Throg’s new website, which includes a support forum.  If you like Vanilla and would like to see its improvements continued, a small donation is always appreciated.

All instructional images from Throg’s site.

WHS\unRAID users…nice add-in here.

Posted by Jon | Windows Home Server | Monday 28 December 2009 9:08 am

Although I could not get it to work properly (I will say I did not have time to fiddle much with it either though), I came across a nice-looking WHS add-in before I took a break that some of you fellow unRAID users may be interested in.  This add-in, basically, can monitor and control many of the most important features of unRAID…right from the WHS console.  It even ties into the clean shutdown script.  If you’re interested, take a look over at the unRAID forum thread about it…I’ve included screenshots (courtesy of Tom) below.

Just a quick note…Heatwave plugin now has 7MC support!

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Monday 2 November 2009 10:47 am

Yep, the popular weather plugin for Vista has been modified to support 7MC. x86 and x64 download versions for Heatwave v1.2 are available here.

Here is a list of a few other additions to this pre-release version:

  • A widescreen layout is now included. If you don’t like it, it can be disabled in Settings on the Appearance page.
  • There is a day/night (sun/moon) forecast indication next to the location title. If you don’t like it, it can be disabled in Settings on the Appearance page.
  • The layout of the main page has been tightened up a bit (the data refresh times have been lost in this version, however will return in a later version)
  • The various times will now be formatted according to the system time format
  • The temperature ranges are now presented in high-low order. You can flip them back to the way they were in Settings on the General page.
  • Changed the formatting of temperature ranges to make negative temperatures more legible
