MCEBuddy LogoI don’t do much recording, but I setup a series recording for a PBS Kids show that my kids like and decided to go looking for something to remove the commercials.  The first place I looked was at the MCEBuddy site.  I used it a good while back and was impressed, so when revisiting, I found that a new beta was released this past Sunday (1th).

MCEBuddy 1.1 BETA3 for x86 and x64 systems is now available.  Download page is here.

A quick rundown of what’s new (taken directly from the MCEBuddy download page):

unRAID 4.5 beta 13 released.

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Friday 4 December 2009 3:50 pm

Tom says this will ultimately become the 4.5 Final if no major bugs are found between now and Monday.  I’m going to wait until Monday since there isn’t a drastic change between this and b12.

unRAID 4.5 beta 12 released!

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Tuesday 1 December 2009 4:07 pm

This release addresses many of the situations where playback is interrupted when various types of other external access to the unRAID server occurs.  I experience this myself and can’t wait to see if it is finally resolved.

You can read the detailed release notes and download it here.

unRAID 4.5 beta7 released.

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Wednesday 14 October 2009 4:54 pm

It’s been 5 long months since the last release of any kind for us unRAID users, but two days ago beta 7 made its way on the download block.  From the unRAID forum, this is what is included/fixed with this release:

Changes from 4.5-beta6 to 4.5-beta7
-----------------------------------

Bug fixes:
- If 'config/style.css' is not present, then don't tell browser to load it.
- Fixed kernel crash when number of drives > 17, now correctly supports up to 20 drives ('Pro' issue only).

Other changes:
- Prevent disks appearing 'unformatted' as a result of incomplete Stop Array operation.
- Add driver for Adaptec 2410SA PCI RAID card (untested).
- Upgrade linux kernel to 2.6.30.8
- Upgrade samba to 3.3.7
- Upgrade fuse to 2.8.1

You can download it directly from here, or take it easy on Tom and grab the torrent here.

The Digital Lifestyle has an exclusive on MyMovies 3.

Posted by Jon | HTPC | Wednesday 26 August 2009 7:41 am

I’m probably not going to do much writing on the release of MyMovies 3 since I haven’t maintained the database for it in about a year, but Ian over at The Digital Lifestyle was able to get some exclusive screenshots of it in action.  You can see them here.

I qualify for download of the beta release on Sept. 1st, but considering none of my files are in a supported format for direct folder import, I’ll be forced to pass.  I remember how much work it was for me to keep up with it, so there’s no way I’ll start from scratch…especially considering that I now have 100x more TV shows than I did when using it.  MyMovies definitely doesn’t do well with individual TV episodes.

Aside from all of that, it does look nice, albeit the resemblance is quite uncanny to another popular plugin.  I guess there are only so many ways to display movie titles though, so I’ll leave it at that.

I am glad that Brian is finally able to get this out the door and do wish him the best of luck with it.  I’m sure it will be a huge hit.
