Seems like I had just made a post (I still think I did and it got lost, or something), but I noticed that it had been 10 days since something last graced my front page. What can I say? It’s summer and I’ve been busy. I did get a couple new toys though…
The first was an early birthday gift from my wife and she got one also – new [amazon_link id="B0097CZBH4" target="_blank" ]iPhone 5[/amazon_link]s for the both of us. I’m still on the fence about it, but it was an improvement over my aging [amazon_link id="B004T0LKHO" target="_blank" ]Samsung Galaxy S 4G[/amazon_link], although it had been an excellent phone. Both have their quirks, but I really like the iPhone’s camera and Facetime is pretty cool since my parents have iPhones also. We also got [amazon_link id="B00974L1T4" target="_blank" ]Otterbox Commuter[/amazon_link] cases for both…pretty solid cases, but I’m still finding the price hard to swallow.
Also, my first 3TB HDD arrived today and it will be going into my unRAID server as a new parity drive. The 2TB in there now will recommissioned as a data drive to offer me a little more space. I grabbed a Toshiba 7200 RPM drive for $119.99. As luck would have it, the Seagates just dropped to $109.99. Oh well.
In other news, the Perc 5/i I recently replaced did not resolve the disk issues I was having on the 2950 II server. As it turns out, the controller just didn’t like the [amazon_link id="B00BD9PH7I" target="_blank" ]Fujitsu 15K SAS[/amazon_link] I was pairing the [amazon_link id="B0012PUT7Q" target="_blank" ]Seagate Cheetah[/amazon_link] with. So, I got rid of the Fujitsu, replaced it with another identical Seagate, reconstructed the array, and they have been living happily ever…since. I’m just stuck now with a Perc 5/i that I’m not quite sure what to do with. I don’t have any breakout cables for it, so it’ll probably get binned.
Finally, happy birthday to my oldest son, Joseph. He turned 8 on Tuesday! He wanted an iPod, but that’s a bit much for an 8 year old. I got him a [amazon_link id="B002MAPT7U" target="_blank" ]4GB Sansa Clip+[/amazon_link] and he loves it. As an added gift for him and my upcoming birthday, I think we’re going to go in together to get an [amazon_link id="B00BBU8VFY" target="_blank" ]XBox 360[/amazon_link]. I know the [amazon_link id="B00CMQTVK0" target="_blank" ]One[/amazon_link] is coming out, but at my kids’ ages, I’m not sure that it makes much sense. I can’t say I want to be a first-gen user of something like that anyway…not for $500+.
Check back soon for more…stuff?
