thumbs_db Whenever I update my ImagesByName package, I usually just run a Process All against my movies and TV series in MetaBrowser and then run a WinDiff against my updated folder and my previously updated base folder.  Recently, however, I’ve also been incorporating the ImagesByName packages that others have been compiling to make the most complete compilation of actors images that I can offer.  The problem I’ve been seeing with that is that those who have been compiling their own packages are not cleaning them up properly (I’m still grateful for the time they put into it though!).  I’m finding a bunch of thumbs.db files, which are just hidden thumbnail databases that do nothing for the IBN project except take up space and increase the file count.  I’ve also been noticing a bunch of folder_alt#.jpg files, which really don’t serve a purpose either unless you know exactly where they are and want to manually change file names so that you can pick and choose which actor image is shown in Media Browser.

In an effort to get my IBN folders cleaned up, I decided I would help you get yours clean and include a small batch script that will go through your ImagesByName folder and recursively delete all the hidden thumbs.db and folder_alt#.jpg files for you.

Just download the zip, extract it to the root of your ImagesByName directory (ex. C:\Programdata\MediaBrowser\ImagesByName) and then double-click to run.  That’s it!  Check soon for an IBN update file!

Note:

Thumbs.db files are hidden by default, so just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean they are not there.  This batch does not care if they are hidden or not…it will delete them.
