A preview of meta<browser/> 2.0.

Moving further to the right, we have our Fetchers toolbar. This is where we can specify any of the available fetchers to use when fetching metdata. Clicking on any of the available icons in the list activates that specific fetcher.

Fetchers toolbar

Finally, we have the Fetch toolbar which contains the icons responsible for most of the actions available to us.

Fetch toolbar

Options consists of a drop-down menu with the following configuration settings:

  1. Confirm Selection – If enabled, will allow you to choose from the most probable matches. Disabled will take the top-rated result (not always correct, but quickest)
  2. Use Existing ID – Fetches data according to pre-existing ID available. If none available, it uses the Confirm Selection method
  3. Fetch ID Only – Populates ID field for active fetcher only when enabled
  4. Replace Missing MetaData Only – Will populate only those fields that have no data when enabled
Fetch options

Cancel is pretty self-explanatory, as it will clear any current unsaved fetching results. Save will preserve the current fetch results (all items highlighted in red will be preserved). Fetch performs a manual fetch action according to the Options specified.

Now, let’s take a look at the context menu options when right clicking on an item in the Media Collection list. When right-clicking on an item, we will find the following options:

  1. Lock/Unlock Movie - This locks the item from obtaining further updates. Useful when all metadata and images are complete.
  2. Download Trailer – Downloads the trailer (if available) according to settings (resolution). This menu item will not be shown if right-clicking on a Media Collection item that already has a downloaded trailer.
  3. Download All Trailers Will attempt to download available trailers for all items in the Media Collection list. Use with care!
  4. Group By - Allows for additional quick sorting by the following criteria (all are self-explanatory):
    1. Default
    2. Date Added
    3. Alphabetical
    4. Year
    5. Rating
  5. Open Containing Folder – Opens an Explorer window of the currently selected item location
  6. Export List – Performs a ‘quick save’ of an exportlist.xls file to your meta %PROGRAMDATA% folder, containing your entire Media Collection.

But, that’s not all! meta 2.0 also includes additional context menu options for movie folders. When right-clicking on an entry that is a sub-folder containing multiple movies, you get the following additional options:

  1. Lock/Unlock Folder – This is basically the same as Lock Item, except for a top-level folder. media_collection_lock_folder
  2. Refresh Folder – Refreshes only the contents of the selected folder.
  3. Treat Folder as Movie – Allows the addition of XML-based information and poster/backdrop art – just like movies. Useful for folders that are used for box sets.

Finally, we make it to the remaining items for this review. The first is the Quick Access Toolbar which, I must admit, I found by mistake. If you right click on any top toolbar icon or icon group, you will get a context menu with options:

  1. Add to Quick Access Toolbar adds the item(s) you right clicked on to the Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. Show Below the Ribbon will place the right clicked item below the top ribbon only if it is already above it.
  3. Show Above the Ribbon will place the right clicked item above the top ribbon only if it is already below it.
  4. Minimize the Ribbon will completely hide the ribbon until you click the Home tab, which will then bring the ribbon into view.

This is the context menu with all items above the ribbon (menu only allows for placing item below the ribbon).

Toolbar context menu

This is the placement of items when added to the Quick Access Toolbar (there were not yet any icons available for group items in the Quick Access Toolbar, but they will be included in the release).

The Quick Access Toolbar can also be moved above or below the ribbon by right clicking on it.

Technical difficulties required me to recreate the post, so comments were lost. Sorry.

I do want to answer the question that was asked (Martin P.) – a release date has not yet been set, but it can probably be measured in weeks.

Amazing. The new metabrowser is looking really cool. The subscription model really worries me a though.

Haha…….”donation”. Sorry but no, it’s not a donation if the only way to use his software is if you cough up the money. That’s called a subscription.

you wrote –> This, for all intensive purposes, is where the ‘brawn’ of the application lies.

S/B –> for all intents and purposes

I keep my movies like so:

    Name Year Type

I used your file-to-folder script so everything is tidy. But meta browser isn’t finding my movies. I have to remove the Year and Type and then it will work. Is their a way to configure this?

    For example:

    Aladdin 1992 720p.mkv

metabrowser can’t find this title, but will find just Aladdin.
    Thanks

    Jon Reply:

You will need to put everything not part of the title within closed brackets. So your folder name should read Aladdin [1992 720p]. You can also include the year in parenthesis, if you want Aladdin (1992) [720p] will also work. File names are not important for movies, so they do not need to be renamed.
