Happy Holidays!…and other stuff.

Feels like it’s been forever since I posted anything.  I suppose it has been in blog time.  Oh well, it was Christmas time - you should have been spending time with family (or your new toys)!
Anyway, about the only thing that I have to report at this very moment is that the Media Browser (Video [...]

Media Browser (pre) beta release screenshots.

As far as I know, the last SVN has been committed that would prompt the first beta release of the new Media Browser plugin.  There’s not a ton to add since I gave the first sneak peek a few weeks ago, but I wanted to include the latest screenshots and give a quick rundown of [...]

Open Media Library (OML).

Out of fear of appearing completely biased in my video library plugin choice, I decided it was time to put up a few more short reviews and screenshots of those that are available outside of Video Browser (soon to be Media Browser).  While I find Media Browser to be perfect for me, it is slightly [...]

Sorry, No HDPC-20 for DirecTV Hopefuls.

DirecTV’s CTO Romulo Pontual has confirmed that the much anticipated DirecTV HDPC-20 tuner for Media Center usage (primarily tested with Windows 7) is not to be.  In an email to Ed Bott of ZDNet, Pontual squashed all hope by saying,
“DIRECTV has suspended the development of the HDPC-20 tuner project that was designed to integrate DIRECTV [...]

Very Quick Preview of Windows 7

First off, I hope no one was really looking forward to an in-depth preview of the upcoming WIndows 7 operating system from me.  If you were, sorry.  I will point you to a couple, however - jump on over to Charlie Owen’s Preview, then check out ActiveWin’s multi-page introduction to it.  Here, you will only [...]

Windows 7 Coming Right Up.

I’m a bit late to the game compared to many other HTPC/Media Center blog sites, but better late than never - right?  I’m referring to writeup on the next operating system offering from Microsoft, now known as Windows 7.
From what I’ve seen, Windows 7 doesn’t stray far from its Vista predecessor, but enhances(?) some of [...]

Good Thanksgiving?

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday.  We did.  A lot of food and little sleep with some crappy traveling always makes for a perfect holiday.
On the HTPC front, not much from me.  I did have to reload my primary PC over the weekend, however.  After running a script to fix some registry settings that [...]

Move the MyMovies FileStorage Location.

This is the final installment in MyMovies default location ‘hacking’ - moving the FileStorage share to another location.
The FileStorage folder contains the Covers and Photos directories, which are pretty self-explanatory.  There’s also a SQL database transaction file in there, but we don’t need to concern ourselves with that (just don’t delete it).  The FileStorage folder [...]

Video Browser Genre Images.

By default, Video Browser doesn’t include any genre images.  It actually has some pretty ugly folder-looking-things with wrapped text indicating the genre within it.  For most of the day, I’ve worked on replacing those with something that is at least a little nicer to look at.
I’m no graphic artist, but I think I’ve done a [...]
