Just what many of you are waiting for within the MediaBrowser 3 realm – the standalone client for Windows. I imagine the majority of users being XP and/or Windows 8, who either have no Media Center option, or do not want to pay for it, the new Media Browser Theater client, as it is named, has finally see quite a bit of attention as of late. I’m a bit behind on providing teasers, but never late than never – right?
I’m a heavy user of MB3 Classic as old habits die hard, but with my recent HDHomeRun Prime addition, ditching Media Center became a little more difficult as it still has very good Live TV capabilities…especially for the Prime and its CableCard. However, that doesn’t mean that you, or I, are pigeon-holed into using the Classic client for MB3. With early-release plugins for Windows Media Center Integration (WMC launcher), Media Center and Media Browser Theater can co-exist, side-by-side. Some functionality is still to go, like Search, the ability to install plugins, and secured profiles (password-protected profiles not working at the time of this article), but overall, it is coming along quite well and looks very good. It was also very responsive…in fact, all the screenshots you are about to see were taken with MBT installed on my PC at work with the network connection established over VPN to my home. Everything loaded pretty quickly!
Anyway, enough of my babbling, here’s a huge set of screenshots featuring the new standalone client – Media Browser Theater!
Even though I probably won’t turn away from Classic for a while, this client is really something to be excited about. I’ll be sure to provide as much info as I can, as I get it. Get the latest download for all new releases at the official Media Browser 3 site!
