The Media Browser team has just released 2.0.5.0 beta. From the forum, the changes are”
Changes:
* Fixed to serialization of metadata to cope with possibility of of nulls in director and genre lists.
* Frame grabber no longer runs for the first (fast) pass of metadata fetching as it can cause us to generate frames unnecessarily that get replaced by downloaded ones.
* sorting out threading in loading of children, it was possible to end up duplicating the children when entering folders very quickly during the load of MB, hopefully this is no longer possible
* pull any pending metadata refresh to the front of the async queue when entering an item
* Ensure our current playstate is not set more than once a second (For win7)
* When switching from detail to thumb strip, vertical scroll option was missing
* Fixed deadlock, this was causing the application to potentially hang during cache population
* stop case sensitivity in finding season folders
* ensure items are resorted if relevant metadata changes
* add option to sort by production year

Hey there. So I picked up a Denon AVR 689. I have a Gateway GT5012, with SPDIF Out going to the receiver, but when I play movies with DTS audio, the DTS light on the receiver does not come on.. any thoughts? I’m using Vista Media Center.
Thanks
Hey,
Looks like a little googling will go along way. I had to uninstall the Vista Codec Pack, and install K-Lite Codec Pack, and set the AC3Filter output to “As Is,” and voila, MKV with DTS and Dolby outputting to receiver no problem.
Been out of the loop for a bit, so I missed this. For playback, I use only ffdshow (enable subtitles, disable AC3 and DTS), Haali Media Splitter and AC3Filter (AC3 and DTS set to SPDIF and everything else is transcoded to 640Kbs 5.1 AC3). Except for a very few RealMedia files I have that I installed RealAlternative for, that is all I have ever used for playback and have never needed anything else. Codec packs are better than they used to be, but are still complete overkill. They just install too many redundant codecs that eventually interfere with one another over time.
On my living room HTPC, the only difference is that I do not use AC3Filter since I have a 7.1 surround system. I use the built-in ffdshow audio mixer to do a virtual 7.1 output to my Onkyo. Works great, which I did not expect.
This whole audio thing confuses the hell out of me. To get 7.1 out of a pc to a receiver do I need to go hdmi out? Also, if my files are DTS, or DTS-ES will I be able to get 7.1? I need to do some more research on this whole thing.
No, its not true 7.1. Basically everything gets spacialized by the ffdshow audio mixer. This is just for standard audio too, not HD audio sources. For a 5.1 or 6.1 source, it basically will just split frequencies between the additional two rear surrounds.
For true 7.1+ you’ll need some PC hardware.
Ah, also I like your lighter filter, when you wrap that up can you send me it/ let me know how you went about making it?
Thanks man
I’ve uploaded the latest SVN build for you here. I compiled this yesterday, so it includes all changes up to yesterday evening, including my lighter backdrop filter.
As far as making it, I just edited the backdrop.mcml in the source. You have to grab it from SVN, have at least Visual Studio 2008 C# Express and WiX installed to compile. I can’t program, but I can poke around enough to make small changes like this (with some help, which I got for this).
Keep in mind that if another beta comes out and you install that, the backdrop filter will be reverted to the beta.
Hey Joshua… I have a question about your GT5012. same computer I have.. thinking about turning it into a HTPC.. currently I’ve converted it to a Mac.. but going back soon.. do you have any problems playing files with stuttering, etc? Was hoping to use XBMC..
