You’re right, I didn’t even look. So, what are you looking for in subtitle support? A way to include subtitles when encoding an MKV or how to play them back?

sorry jon, if yoy see where i have posted my comment(h.264 and VC-1 in VMC? Yep.) it has nothing to do whit media browser!
and if i am corect this are your own words (However, that alone may be reason enough for me to give it a run – just so I can find a way to support subtitles (whether they be embedded in the MKV or external).)as posted above!

I don’t develop for Media Browser. That would best be asked on their forum, or you could try MediaControl, which gives you full control over ffdshow within Media Center.

Have you tryed doing something about the subtitle support?
if not,please give it a go!i think that will make many people very happy!
